Anquilla (pronounced an-GWEE-la) is the most northernly of the Leeward Islands and is flat and consists of a coral limestone formation about 16 miles long by 3 miles wise. Crocus Hill is the highest point at 213 Ft. above sea level.
Getting there can be by private charters or American Eagle connecting in Puerto Rico. Taxis and rental cars are available. A temporary license is required costing about $20 upon presentation of a valid driver’s license.
Accommodations are limited to no more than 100 rooms and are widely scattered around the island with any of the 33 sparkling beaches.
Over 70 restaurants offer a wide variety of international cruisine. You will not be hungry.
Activities are as busy as you want to be or do nothing at all. Pristine waters beckon visitors offshore for sailing, windsurfing, fishing excursions from Sandy Ground and scuba diving among reefs and shipwrecks. 16 galleries are a fascinating collection of local and Caribbean crafts, woodcarvings, hand-blown glass and fine art.
The currency is fixed to the US dollar at $1,00=EC (Eastern Caribbean) $2.70 at this time. The language spoken is English. Population is estimated at 14,000. Passports and airline tickets with return dates are required.
